The function of an evaporator fan motor is to move air across the evaporator coils. This is the process that removes heat from the air, thus producing cool air. If your evaporator fan motor fails, and the compressor is still running, the evaporator coil will freeze and stop working. Before you can replace the motor, you must first thaw the coil and replace the motor.
